Find Your Perfect First Dance
You've shared so much together, so many memories! Which song can say all of that in three and a half minutes!?
I'm Joe Carter, I've been a DJ for 15 years. I've played at a whole host of festivals including Glastonbury and Bestival, numerous bars and clubs around the country and over the years, I've provided the music at plenty of weddings. I've played lots of first dances; I've even been the singer on some occasions!
So what kind of first dance do you want? Here are 7 different ways to get the party started!
The First Date
What was number one on your first date? This can be a great way to start finding the right song for your special day. It will remind you both of the kind of music which was around then. Had my wife and I gone down this route, we would have began our married life dancing to Basshunter....luckily, we didn't!
The Club Banger
Maybe you're in your 20s - or you wish you still were. If you were both massive fans of Eric Prydz's Call On Me or Ce Ce Peniston's Finally then the club route is sure to set your party off with a BANG!
There are so many amazing songs out there that were made decades ago which will say everything you want to say to your significant other. Funk, Soul and Disco music was all about love and you honestly can't go wrong with some of the stuff you'll come across. Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's Classic, Ain't No Mountain High Enough still gives me goosebumps every time I play it. At our wedding, we danced to The Whispers' It's a love thing.
The One He Always Sings In The Shower
OK this is a bit of a random one but maybe there's a song that is constantly being hummed in your household. It could be a song that neither of you even realised you like!
The Classic Romantic
Are you a pair of hopeless romantics? Do you love a bit of Dean Martin's That's Amoré? Or perhaps you like Frank and Nancy Sinatra's Something Stupid. Either way, these classic Rat Pack style songs are guaranteed to put a smile on everyone's face, especially the oldies!
Who doesn't love Frozen? Me. But there are so many great love songs from Musicals that I've seen make tremendous first dances in my time! A personal fave is A whole New Word From Disney's Aladdin.
There was a wedding I performed at once where I was asked to play a mash up of The Village People's YMCA and In The Navy whilst a group of the groom's friends performed a choreographed dance routine. It was amazing. The whole place was in stitches and it really set a great mood for the evening.
I hope this has given you some ideas. Please feel free to leave a comment or question!
